The Zona Archeologica Boca de Potrerillos is an archeological site less than an hour north of Potrero Chico. It is one of the highest concentrations of petroglyphs from prehistoric times in the world and they all can be found within a short walk up a hill. Follow the main highway in front of Hidalgo, 53, north (away from Monterrey) and about 5 km after you pass Mina look for a small sign that says “Zona Arqueológica” with a dirt road to the left. Expect a rough road through the desert that ends at a parking lot in front of a fenced in, government-funded hill. There is also a small museum but it is all in Spanish. A good day trip.
